More About Ellen

I was the lucky girl whose grandfather raised Shetland ponies. My parents let me have my first pony when I was 5 years old. It was not always easy, but my pony was my best friend and gave me wings. Over the years animals have taught me to be observant and patient. These are useful traits when photographing both animals and people.

Horses are my first love. They are both beautiful and powerful. A horse owner for over 50 years, I have experience with many breeds and disciplines. This is an asset when photographing them. Equines are large animals, but it is possible to read them and influence their behavior. I bring a bag of toys and tricks, and almost always get the expression that owners are looking for.

My husband, Tony, and I live with our and small dog, Zarah, and two short tail cats, Gaia and Hera, in Western Oregon. I own an Andalusian gelding, Cisco, that I ride classical dressage, and a Mini gelding, Ohm, that drives. Our kids are grown and reside in Washington. While most of my work is in the Pacific Northwest, I occasionally travel outside the area.

A scientist by training and manager by profession, I come from a family of photographers, artists, and educators. My background and experience enable me to provide professional service while creating lasting images. As well, as portraits, I offer photo sessions for sale horses; for showcasing breeding, boarding, and training operations; and for personal branding.
